Re: Narrowboating?
I sometimes see that Great Canal Journeys on Channel 4 where 80 something married couple Timothy West and Prunella Scales travel around the UK ( and some in Europe) on a boat.
Prunella Scales is suffering from the onset of dementia and is often a bit vague or confused.
Quite moving the way he looks out for her and they still get out and do it.
It DOES look a great way to get around the place and see the country.

When I ride down the tow path of the River Lee going to a match , the boats near Hackney marshes look like floating favelas populated by new age hippies

Sounds ideal for the last active holiday before you're too old for active holidays.

Reckon I've got at least a decade before I consider it.

As a lover of comedy of a certain vintage, the chatter on this thread reminds me of Baddiel and Newman's History Today:

Unfortunately - because it occasionally gets me into ridiculous scrapes - I am only and all about the cock.

Would it were otherwise...

Not a narrow boat, but I've been on a motor cruiser on the Norfolk Broads. Best holiday I ever had in this country.

I'm seriously thinking of gate crashing Gruesome Dump's 'Broads' holiday if he goes next year.

I like the appeal of it too, FC but I spoke about this to a bird I know (dick van) who lived on one for a year or so in Suffolk. Great in the summer, but absolutely freezing in the winter she said.

I could see you on a boat come to think of it. Moor it on the lea and you could be home in five minutes after games at the hotpoint. Lots of hipster, one egg omelette types plotted up along there though.
